Zulkanain Kassim presented the mock cheque to Yang Mulia Raja Datin Zuraida

Kuala Lumpur (14 August 2014) – Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS) donated RM105,000 to the National Heart Institute Foundation (IJNF) as part of the “MEPS-IJN Foundation Heart Surgery Project for Children” partnership for 2014.

Held at the National Heart Institute (IJN), En Zulkanain Kassim, Group Managing Director of MEPS presented the mock cheque to Yang Mulia Raja Datin Zuraida, Chairman, Social and Welfare Committee and Member of the Board of Trustees of IJNF. Also present to witness this prolific occasion was Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhari Yakub, Chief Executive Officer of IJN.

The MEPS-IJNF Heart Surgery Project for Children is the first partnership between MEPS and IJNF, to provide financial aid to identified pediatric patients with congenital heart diseases who are unable to afford the heart surgery. MEPS will work closely with IJNF to assess each selected patient’s background and condition to provide the best possible medical attention.

En Zulkanain Kassim said, “It marks the dawn of a new alliance between two key organisations – one provides the financial bridge for needy heart patients; while the other provides the interbank bridge for the convenience of the public.”

Yang Mulia Raja Datin Zuraida of IJNF on the receiving end said, “The foundation relies heavily on the generous support of kind donors. It is our fervent hope that other corporate organizations follow MEPS’ noble initiative to collaborate with us. This will truly help us at the Foundation to continue our philanthropic mission to help those less fortunate and to support further research in the field of cardiovascular care.”

IJNF, in its endless effort to cure heart patients, has financially assisted more than 500 patients, children and adults alike under its Patient Assistance Program since 2006, averaging to about RM2 million expenditure a year. These funds come from IJNF itself and generous corporate contributions. In 2013 alone, IJNF disbursed a total amount of RM3 million to help lighten the burden of 86 patients.

Right after the launch of the MEPS-IJNF Heart Surgery Project for Children, En Zulkanain Kassim visited the pediatric ward and handed out duit raya to the delighted children, in the spirit of Aidilfitri.

“Although Raya is a time of bonding and celebration with our loved ones, let us not forget the less fortunate,” added En Zulkanain Kassim. “Let us also share our joy and love with these children who are enduring health conditions by bringing cheer to their circumstances.”

MEPS has always stayed true to its corporate social responsibility roots, firmly believing that a giving heart would translate into core values that cascade right down to every MEPS’ citizen. Its staff are actively engaged in community-based activities as part of their work culture. This is in tandem with MEPS’ tagline, “It Matters’, where the simplest gesture makes a difference.
