Kuala Lumpur, November 5, 2009 – Malaysian Electronic Payment System (1997) Sdn Bhd’s (MEPS), the nation’s premier payment network provider today welcomed Al Rajhi Bank into its Shared ATM Network. Al Rajhi Bank, the world’s largest Islamic bank, is the first foreign Islamic bank to be a member of the network.

The bank’s participation in the MEPS Shared ATM Network will immediately provide its customers with the convenience of making interbank cash withdrawals and balance inquiries at approximately 9,000 ATMs nationwide.

At the launch event, MEPS Chairman Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said, “As a member of the MEPS network, Al Rajhi Bank is now able to offer its customers a more extensive base of transaction touch points, providing near anytime, anywhere cash withdrawal facilities.”

Also present at the launch was Al Rajhi Bank Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Rehman. “We currently have 19 branches and 17 offsite ATMs in Malaysia and are constantly looking to grow our customer reach. Offering customer convenience is our main priority. Through this collaboration with MEPS, we hope to reach a larger and more diverse market segment providing access to Al Rajhi’s diverse product suite beyond all boundaries of state and country”, Ahmed said.

To date, there are 15 member banks in the MEPS Shared ATM Network. In addition to interbank cash withdrawals and balance inquiries for domestic and cross-border services, the Shared ATM Network also facilitates funds transfers, mobile top-ups and other related services. These services have enabled member banks to improve its operational efficiency, offer multi-channel banking and enhance its service-orientation.
