MEPS HANDS OUT OVER RM194,000 IN BUSINESS TITHE

Kuala Lumpur, 22 November, 2006 – Malaysian Electronic Payment System (1997) Sdn Bhd (MEPS) handed out RM 194,159.69 in business tithe (zakat perniagaan) to the Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ) recently.

In a simple cheque presentation ceremony, MEPS Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Hata Robani, said that this is the first time that MEPS is paying business tithe but hopes to make it a standard practice. “Tithe is one of the five pillars in Islam and we are very proud to be able to comply with this religious obligation. Furthermore, we see it as a social responsibility as the tithe will be channeled to help those in need or less fortunate,” Dato’ Mohd Hata added.

The cheque was handed to the General Manager of PPZ Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, En Mohd Rais Haji Alias. The tithe was based on profits made by MEPS and its subsidiary, MEPS Currency Management Sdn Bhd.
