MEPS AWARDED PCI DSS COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION FOR INTERBANK GIRO PROCESS

Kuala Lumpur, August 4, 2009 – Malaysian Electronic Payment System (1997) Sdn Bhd (MEPS), a leading interbank network switching provider, announced its Interbank GIRO process has been awarded compliance status with the Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard 1.2 (PCI DSS).

The PCI DSS is a set of best practices defined by the PCI Security Standards Council, covering 12 industry-wide requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective in order to safeguard sensitive data in particular customer data.

According to MEPS Group Managing Director, Mohd Suhail Amar Suresh, the PCI DSS certification reaffirms MEPS’ commitment to the highest levels of data security. “The certification recognizes that MEPS’ policies, procedures and systems uses the best practices and guidelines to protect sensitive customer data and minimize risk of financial losses.”

The certification was achieved after an extensive independent audit of MEPS conducted by SISA Information Security (P) Ltd, a third-party qualified security assessor from the PCI Security Standards Council.
