Kuala Lumpur, 21 Jan, 2004 – Motorists can now enjoy another option of ticket-less parking with the MEPS CASH Transport card. Introduced by Malaysian Electronic Payment System (1997) Sdn Bhd (MEPS), MEPS CASH Transport card is currently being piloted with Imej Parking Sdn Bhd in Menara WELD and Great Eastern Mall.

MEPS Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Hata Robani, said this marks another milestone in MEPS effort to further expand the e-Purse application beyond retail usage. “We are pleased to be in strategic alliance with Imej Parking Sdn Bhd. The MEPS CASH Transport, a chip-based card, is an excellent initiative as it provides added security and efficiency of transactions. In addition, the system is flexible as it allows parking operators the option of offering to motorists season parking, hourly charges or both, within the same card.”

To use the card, motorists need only to tap their cards on the designated reader. The MEPS CASH Transport system will record the vehicle’s time of entry and exit. The parking charges are automatically calculated and deducted from the MEPS CASH Transport card. Cardholders need not collect transit tickets or small change. They only need to maintain a sufficient value in their MEPS CASH Transport card.

Business Development Manager of Imej Parking Sdn Bhd, En Hakimi Harun said that MEPS CASH Transport offers ease and convenience to both motorists and car park operators. “The main benefits of using this system is the increased security that comes with keeping less cash on the premises and a reduction of the maintenance and cash handling costs to auto-payment machines.”

En Hakimi also added that they have received positive response from patrons in Menara WELD and Great Eastern Mall. Imej Parking is in the process of adopting this system, at all 45 of its operated car parks including ‘The Curve’ at Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

” Both MEPS and Imej Parking are committed towards meeting the national vision of making Malaysia into a cashless society. MEPS will be working with other business partners to introduce MEPS CASH Transport for mass transit and public transport in the near future.
